Judas Priest’s Screaming for Vengeance is the album that turned them into a household metal band and Iron Maiden’s Number of the Beast also broke the band in the US. Today we’re going to discuss the pros and cons of each as well as dive a little deeper than normal and give our personal takes and anecdotes on the albums. Metallica’s self titled album Metallica, commonly known as “The Black Album” was released in August of 1991.  Megadeth’s Countdown was released 11 months later in July of 1992. Both albums marked a more commercial direction for the bands but also cemented each band’s place in the world of heavy metal.  Today, the guys are going to go track by track and discuss the pros and cons of each as well as dive a little deeper than we normally do because these are two bands they really like. And when they’re done with that, they’ll give you their BIG 4 Megadeth Drummers.  So sit back, relax and let the debate begin.

This past weekend, Chris Kaye and Kenneth Dean drove up to Ft. Worth, TX from the outskirts of Houston where they live to go see Iron Maiden in concert. And while they were driving up, they decided it would be a great time to record an episode.  So that’s what they did. They went back to what they did when they first met.  They brought up a subject and just started talking about it. So what was the topic you ask? Why all the hate?
All musical artists have their fans and their critics, but some artists elicit such an emotional response from fans and critics alike it begs one to wonder why? On this episode, the guys discussed 3 bands that have all had enormous success and also have some of the harshest critics: Nickelback, Creed and Metallica. 1987 was the year that the cracks would begin to show in the world of heavy metal and more specifically Glam Metal. But it still had some very good metal music. While one band was on top of the world 2 years earlier and would disband in 1987, one band that formed 2 years earlier went on to have the biggest selling debut of all-time. In 2006 the former member of the Dio era Black Sabbath reunited as Heaven and Hell and recorded 3 new songs to be included in a Black Sabbath Dio Years compilation. That led to a tour and then a full album. The subsequent tour would be Ronnie’s last as he was diagnosed with stomach cancer shortly thereafter and passed away on May 16, 2010. About a year and half later, the original Black Sabbath convened at the famed Whisky A Go-Go to announce they would be reuniting with plans to record a new album and tour. 13 was released in 2013 and their final tour followed. On this episode, the guys pit the final albums of these two bands careers to see which one we think is the better album. They also give you their BIG 4 Ronnie James Dio Songs. It's part 5 and the final part of our series call the 10 Most Important in Metal History and we saved the best for last. Whether you want to admit it or not, lead singers are the most vital component when it comes to a band. While it is affectionately and commonly known that most singers have LSD, Lead Singers Disease, there is a reason for that. The singer is the front man, the most visible person on the stage and essentially the mouthpiece of the band.
